Adding a Question/Answer Set to a region or language

Each Q/A set needing to be localized should be based on an existing English master set under Homepage (int). If the set does not have an English counterpart, it will need to be created in order to establish a consistent base to work from.

1. Go to the Pages in the dashboard. This will list the pages using the nested view functionality, which is similar to a file directory on a desktop.

2. Expand the "Homepage" folder. This contains every master set that is currently built on this site. Each set may be tailored for a specific region, as is indicated by the first part of the title. The region primarily affects the use of photography, which will likely change after the set is added to a different region.

3. Hover over the page you want to copy and click "New Draft". This will clone the page and open the page editor simultaneously, allowing you to make necessary changes to the page.

4. Update title to reflect the new region and language. See proper abbreviations.

5. Change permalink to the correct format. The permalink is structured using the following criteria:
qqq or aaa: indicates question or answer
pain-in-life: question-with-dashes
s3q2: question code
qqq or aa#: question or answer followed by number (aa1)

6. Set Parent Page to correct region and language. Parent page will begin with REG (region), followed by language. This step is required in order to make the correct permalink structure.

7. Set template to the correct Region and Language. Scroll down to bottom of editor to find the Oxygen setting called "RENDER PAGE USING TEMPLATE".

8. Update SEO title and Meta description. The title should be the full translated question or answer followed by a hyphen and the translated site name. The description should be the first sentence of the about paragraph from the footer.

Question title: I feel lonely because I am...
Answer title: I feel lonely because I am single.

9. Publish or Update.

10. Repeat all steps for additional pages.

Contextualize a page for a region or language

Every page depends on the correct template to contextualize fonts and the color scheme, so no further work is needed to change the logo or theme. However, the content on each page will need to be modified to use the correct text and photos that are appropriate for the region and language.

Below are some helpful tips for contextualization:

  • Edit page with Oxygen. This replaces the standard WordPress block editor with a drag and drop page builder. Learn more about editing with Oxygen.
  • Optimize photos to a max width or length of 1080px. Refer to the appropriate gallery for photos approved for the region. Photos should work for all languages in a region in order to avoid changing photos for every language.
  • Remove domain from background images. When working with background images, be sure to remove the domain from the file path so it begins with "/wp-content..."
  • Do not alter the layout of the page, change colors or font styles on pages based on an existing layout. Presentation is controlled through a stylesheet so altering the layout or text styles in the editor may cause problems.   • Keep text replacements contained in the original header or text box. This ensures that all styles and classes remain in tact while translations could be easily interpreted when compared to the page's English counterpart.
